About Me

I am the eldest of four, my birth took place in the front bedroom of my grandmother's house which was our home until my parents found their own house further down the street. Growing up in a financially strained household, we had to rely on our imaginative minds to come up with various forms of entertainment and activities that did not require money, such as playing out on the street. As a child, you did not have the privilege of having mobile phones, laptops, televisions, etc. in your bedroom. We grew up in an environment with strict rules and regulations and if we ever broke those rules; we knew we would be in trouble.

I performed exceptionally well in school until I transitioned to senior school. Soon I was the primary target of bullying and eventually missed three months of school, signing in and leaving right away to go fishing. When they finally realised what had happened, my parents were understandably and justifiably outraged. My father took me to attend karate classes, and in the next few months it gave me the strength to take on the bullies and stand up for myself. I never had to engage in any kind of physical altercation with them. There was one instance where I found myself in a situation that caused a physical altercation. Taking the situation into my own hands, I could pick the terms and conditions that suited me. This was my way of showing the bullies that I would no longer be a helpless target. I am not suggesting that violence is the answer, but by being brave, not giving in to the bully's tactics, and refusing to back down, it's possible to turn their focus elsewhere. Despite this, I performed exceptionally well in all the sciences and placed in the top groups, but my English grades were just average.

I graduated from school with three O levels and four CSEs. Since leaving school, I have successfully completed 2 A-levels and a degree. As well as graduating with a certificate in ‘Blue sky thinking’, I have also successfully completed a course in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).

During the early stages of my professional life, it never crossed my mind to consider writing or becoming an author. I worked in a research laboratory for Northern dairies, where I conducted many experiments. When I reached the age of 20, I took the plunge, got married, and eventually we were blessed with two children. The marriage lasted for close to 13 years before we ended up getting a divorce. Despite what happened, we remain friends. With the closing of the dairy, I used my passion for photography and photographed weddings, maternity shoots, and newborns. I could make enough money for me to survive as a single person, and this was going well.

Whilst covering a wedding, I encountered my second partner, who was employed at a local hospital as a personal assistant to a consultant surgeon. Because of financial necessity, it compelled me to take a position as a porter at the hospital. I never imagined that they would assign me to the theatres as a theatre porter, but that's what happened. From the day I started, I knew precisely the way I wanted my career to go. When people discuss having a 'Calling', a feeling that they must pursue something, I am quite familiar with the sensation, as I experienced it the first day I started. After four years of hard work and dedication, I qualified as a Registered Nurse. After two decades of being together with my second partner, we amicably went our separate ways. About 3 years later and completely by chance at a spiritualist group meeting, I met my present wife.

When I first considered writing 6 years ago, I would always come up with an excuse why it wasn't the right time to write. While helping an author friend with the design of the cover of their book, I had to confess that I had not read it. I explained to him I have a great imagination, yet I could not focus on reading a book. He proposed I should take on the challenge of writing a book, and for me to do that effectively, he proposed I should read a few books in the genre I would be writing.

In 2021 after I recounted my stories as a Male Nurse to the reception staff at the Peeler House Surgery. They found them funny. It inspired me to write my first book, Confessions of a Male Nurse. Jose (Receptionist) kept insisting that I should write the book. My wife was also a significant source of encouragement in my decision to put pen to paper and write the book. It has been successful on Amazon and the reviews it has received are all 5-star ratings. That initial spark slowly grew and developed into a passionate desire to write the fantasy books I had envisioned. I have recently transitioned to semi-retirement, and I now find great pleasure and joy in this activity. I am hoping to have a minimum of 3 of the books on the shelves by Christmas 2023, with a further 2 books for the following year. It does not matter how young or how old you are, beginning a different writing career is always an option. Everyone holds a unique tale within them, and there are individuals who would be intrigued to read it.

I have a background in Nursing and now I am an author who has a passion for writing fantasy fiction that is easy to comprehend. Through my writing, I can give my readers the chance to escape into an enchanting world of fantasy. To captivate both children and adults with the intriguing facts and history embedded in the stories. I hope to be an inspiration to both young and old alike, to help them realise they can achieve more than they believed they were capable of. For my readers to have the opportunity to accompany the characters on their journey and witness their confrontations of their hopes, fears, and development of their roles. As children, we progress through life and experience similar stages of growth and development, just as we do during adulthood.

Grab yourself a hot chocolate, curl up, and let me transport you to my magical world.
